1000 Km Range, 30% Cheaper: B’luru Firm Overhauls Charging Tech for Electric Cars!

The electrical vehicle segment in India has indeed come a very long way. There remains limits in regards to adoption. Addressing all these issues, a Bengaluru-based nanotechnology company specialising in Graphene known as Log 9 Materials have developed their own new aluminum fuel cells (AFCs) that provide five times the range compared to an ordinary lithium ion battery might provide, costs 30 per cent more affordable, is much easier to use and doesn’t require the annoyance of constantly tracking it.

“The important difference between state a lithium ion battery and AFC is the prior is a storage apparatus which requires charging while the latter would be a pure electricity generation apparatus. Our AFCs are far more in tune with the behavior of average car users, who refuel their vehicles rather than recharging it within seconds. Moreover, AFCs offer a selection of preceding 1,000 Km unlike their lithium ion sockets that have a range of 250 Km. Our objective is to extend that range to past 2,000 Km,” states Akshay Singhal, the Founder of Log 9 Materials, in a conversation with The Better India.

How can this operate?

“In our aluminum gas cell, we’ve got two graphene membranes on either side and aluminium cassette in the middle. The graphene keeps out the carbon dioxide , while letting oxygen in. If you want to create energy, water leaks in, and it blends with oxygen. The following chemical reaction transforms aluminum into aluminum hydroxide, generating energy, which can power a vehicle or a home,” he also states in this video explainer.

“Once this tape reduces in depth and eventually vanishes after conducting across 1,000 KM, you can manually replace it with a cassette. It’s like sliding a tape in a tape recorder. Thus, the gas cell will be slid in by the aluminum tape. Our goal is to ensure that these cassettes will be accessible at gas channels. For this to happen, we’re working together with fuel distributors also,” Akshay informs TBI.

This is a renewable and completely circular power source –aluminum hydroxide particles that are made by the reaction can be re-smelted back into aluminum using energy. Also, aluminum is totally recyclable.

“What we do here is we create aluminum using energy. Aluminum generates energy goes into the aluminum gas cell, and gets converted into aluminum oxide, and also this oxide can be converted back into rdquo, & aluminum; clarifies Akshay.

However, did Log 9 Materials arrive at this unique alternative?

They are a graphene company that is production. They explored how it might be used lead acid batteries in electric cars at the end of 2017 and to boost the performance of lithium ion. Even though they saw a noticeable improvement it didn ’ t tackle key technical challenges such as charging a deficiency of comprehensive charging infrastructure and time.

Furthermore, they also realised that India is heavily determined by Chinese imports when it comes to acquiring lithium ion or lead acid batteries. If we’re looking at bulk EV adoption in India by 2030, it is going to burn a hole in our growing trade deficit with China. Today we import vast amounts of petroleum, but we will do the exact same with lithium ion batteries .

Rather, these at Log 9 idea why not use exactly what ’so readily available back home, which offers additional user friendly features such as refueling, short refueling time and more range and that’so if they struck upon AFCs, that had its own share of challenges.

“Using our expertise that is graphene, we solved these challenges. We developed a functional prototype in only 18 weeks, and our competitors like Phinergy from Israel took to build. Also, together with AFCs we don’t should come up with a comprehensive charging infrastructure network that frequently involves a capital expenditure,” states Akshay.

Moreover, Log 9 gas cells are expected to price 30-40 per cent lower compared to their lithium ion sockets. Aside from offering five times the range, minimal electricity consumption, the materials they use in this battery are very simple–aluminum, water (electrolyte), graphene (that comes from graphite). These substances are available everywhere. However, our initial use of AFCs will be as an immediate alternative for generators in power generators for telecom businesses, & rdquo .

If Log 9 does triumph in mainstreaming AFCs, it is going to change the sport for fresh energy in India.
