All Future BMW Models To Use A Single, Electric-Focused Platform

All prospective automobiles and SUVs from BMW will be underpinned with one, electric-focused design.

This platform, dubbed the New Class, has been designed to support all-electric powertrains but may also provide support for gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, in addition to plug hybrids. It’ll start in 2025 and might have the flexibility to support a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain.

Based on Auto News, the New Class platform will replace the vehicle producer ’two current architectures; the UKL little platform utilized for BMWs compact cars along with the Mini brand, and also the CLAR platform used across the remainder of the BMW family.

Contrary to the New Class platform which is manufactured with electric powertrains as a focus, the two UKL along with CLAR platforms were developed for combustion engine vehicles. BMW has since upgraded the CLAR architecture significantly, shifting the fundamental flooring to accommodate EVs and plug hybrids. Even the all-electric iX3 utilizes this platform, as do the i4 along with iX, and it’ll also underpin the electric versions of the 5-Series along with 7-Series.

It’s known that the new architecture will support different proportions of all-electric vehicles, such as a spacious inside. Additionally, it will support a high-voltage battery theory using an enhanced cell design and as standard, will be rear-wheel drive focused, although front- and – all-wheel drive models will be provided.

BMW wants EVs to accounts for half of its international deliveries by 2030 and also the New Class platform helps it to achieve this goal.
