Apex Planning A Range Of Models To Follow AP-0 Sports Car

Apex plans on launching a host of models in the coming years following the recent unveiling of the all-electric AP-0 concept in March.

The small car manufacturer is run by two Hong Kong-based brothers, Gary and Jason Yeung, but has its design, engineering and manufacturing base in the UK. The immediate plan is for production of the AP-0 to start at a site in Woking that can build up to 500 examples annually from 2022. Apex’s future won’t stop at the AP-0.

The next model in the Apex family will come in the form of a cheaper and smaller electric sports car that will be built in China but designed and engineered in the UK around the same platform as the AP-0, Autocar reports. Prices for this model will start at under £100,000 ($124,247), making it significantly cheaper than the AP-0 that will be available from £150,000 ($186,370).

“For now, our focus is the AP-0. But after that, we’re aiming to have a factory in China where we would build a smaller sports EV. You can’t find a reasonably priced sports EV at the moment,” Jason Yeung said.

Brother Gary Yeung added that Apex isn’t “trying to have a product similar to Tesla or other carmakers. We’re trying to make something different. At the AP-0’s price level, we have a good-handling car but also one that’s safe on road and eco-friendly.”

It’s not just sports cars that the company sees a future in. In fact, another arm of the Apex business will be launched to work on four-seat models, the first of which could arrive before 2020.
