Aptera Releases A Three-Wheel EV That Doesn’t Need Charging

Should you’ve ever wondered exactly what type of Reliant Robin in the future might look like, here’s your answer.

The brand-new Aptera EV is a three-wheeled automobile that runs on solar-power, offering a reported possible array of what is a groundbreaking 1,000 miles. The automobile ’s leading model comes with a 100 kWh battery, and a range of solar panels on the roof that can provide up to 45 miles of range each day.

It’s no first-time Aptera have attempted to release a three-wheeled electrical car; the firm went bust in 2011 after their initial attempt failed. However they’re back with a brand new appearance, and this time they’re planning to go one better, by finding an electric vehicle that doesn’t need charging.

The glossy, lightweight vehicle also comes with optional solar panels on the rear and roof, including yet another 25 miles of range. Aptera states that the solar technologies, which can charge at a speed of five mph, theoretically suggests that, provided that you’re only using it for quick trips, the automobile shouldn’t run out of charge.

Aptera co-found Chris Anthony stated in a statement:

With Aptera’s Never Charge tech, you’re driven by the ability of sunlight. Our built-in solar selection keeps your battery package topped off and anyplace you wish to go, you just go.

Never Charge is built into each Aptera and is designed to harvest sunlight to journey over 11,000 miles per year in many regions.

Solar energy is all well and good if you’re driving around sunny California, but imagine if you’re attempting to take the automobile out for spin onto a gloomy day in London, if charging may be less efficient? Well, the good news is that the Aptera EV isn’t entirely hooked on solar, you can even plug it in like any other electrical vehicle, with the firm saying its fast charging technologies can provide a high model charge rate of up to 500 miles of scope per hour. Battery sizes in the many models vary from 25 kWh to 100 kWh.

The futuristic car comes with some pretty decent specs. It’s obtained a lower drag coefficient than the Tesla Model 3 (0.13 compared to 0.23) and at three-wheel drive mode can get from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Aptera additionally says its automobiles come with level 2 autonomous capability, including encounter tracking, lane control and emergency braking.

The Aptera is originally being sold as two distinct models — that the Paradigm and Paradigm+ — together with prices ranging from $25,900 to $46,000. The company began taking orders last Friday, December 4, with a non refundable $100 deposit, together with deliveries expected to begin next year.
