Luxury automakers BMW and Mercedes-Benz are both pursuing strong rollouts of all EVs. But the two brands consider EV markets to be uncertain within the upcoming few decades. Their strategies for dealing with that perceived uncertainty are different.
BMW is integrating the creation of EVs, plug in hybrids, and internal-combustion cars around exactly the identical assembly line so that it can dial EV volume up or down. Meanwhile, the Mercedes is building committed EV platforms along with a network of battery powered plants, even as it decreases the output of its very initial electric SUV.
