BMW Sued By U.S. Hybrid Tech Provider For Patent Infringement

BMW was slapped with a patent breach lawsuit by U.S. hybrid tech provider Paice, which is based in Baltimore, Maryland.

According to a suit filed at the U.S. District Court in Maryland, breach is being maintained on a total of eight BMW hybrid vehicle and plug-in hybrid models, for instance, 330e iPerformance, 530e iPerformance, 750e xDrive iPerformance, i8 Roadster PHEV and Mini Countryman PHEV, reports Autonews Europe.

“Paice shared aspects of the hybrid technology with BMW in good faith,” stated Paice CEO Robert Oswald at a declaration. “Rather than just negotiate a license for our technologies, BMW took exactly what it learned from Paice and employed it. ”

The German automaker has yet to comment on this ongoing litigation.

Paice had sued the likes of Ford, Toyota, Hyundai and Kia also, and then obtained the brands to pay in order to license its technologies. Their relationship with BMW nonetheless goes back to the early 2000s.

Back then, Paice taught BMW the way its patented technologies can optimize fuel efficiency and decrease emissions without affecting driving performance, according to the suit.

“BMW readily expressed interest in Paice’s technologies since BMW was pushing its diesel technology and was years behind other leading automakers that were actively pursuing hybrids,” stated that the 31-page complaint, which also adds that following BMW experimented with a hybrid version of the X6, the automaker started “employing Paice’s critical teachings, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions on its vehicle lineup having remarkable success. ”
