Byton is suspending many operations, including production at its factory in Nanjing, China, from July 1 to raise new funds and issue cost-cutting measures in a bid to take care of the heavy blow in the coronavirus pandemic.

The EV startup firm, that has furloughed half of its US-based workers since April, is confronted adding it is going to start paying its workers from July.

Byton is inviting workers in being paid in order for priority to resign.

“The new coronavirus epidemic has attracted challenges to Byton’s manufacturing and funding operations, & rdquo; Byton stated in a declaration. “After careful consideration and consultations with our shareholders and management, we’ve decided to, from July 1, kickstart a plan to reduce employee expenses and market the company’s tactical reorganization. ”

Throughout its so-called “tactical restructuring”, Byton will keep some workers for a minimum standard performance, according to Bloomberg.

Byton’s initial plan was to start the M-Byte electric SUV, which includes a massive 48-inch display on the dash, in China by late 2020 and enter the US market in 2021. The business was established by BMW and Nissan workers and is backed by China’s FAW Group and battery powered supplier CATL.

Even the Byton M-Byte attained the pre-production stage in the company’s Nanjing mill last April, once the very first cars rolled off the manufacturing line. The electric SUV is going to be provided in two variants: a single-motor, 72kWh base version with 268 HP plus 224 miles (360 kilometers ) of scope, and a dual-motor, 95 kWh range-topper with 403 HP and 270 miles (435 kilometers ) of scope under WLTP.
