Tesla founder and self-confessed cryptocurrency lover Elon Musk surprised the business once more this week, tweeting content about altcoin Ethereum (ETH).
Ethereum Markets Fail To React To Musk
In many tweets on April 29, Musk, who has become something of a mythical figure in cryptocurrency, set social media commentators imagining with just two words: “Ethereum” and “jk. ”
The tweets, which remain with no official excuse, come just weeks after Musk similarly appeared to plug meme-based altcoin Dogecoin (DOGE).
While those tweets comprised more obvious compliments after April Fool’s Day implied the author was, in actuality, less sincere in his adoration of the coin.
Nonetheless, as Bitcoinist noted, DOGE surged on publication of the tweets, something that the ETH episode appeared to fail at doing.
As of press time Tuesday, ETH/USD had traded flat over the previous 24 hours, remaining at $157 while Bitcoin (BTC) fell 1.2 per cent to $5240.
Dogecoin Or Bitcoin Style?
Musk’s profile within crypto jumped earlier this season when he confronted calls to join the now-completed charity trade relay to raise funds for Venezuela.
Known as Lightning Torch, the relay, which used Bitcoin’s Lightning Network to ‘rsquo & travel; between holders, saw participation from well-known titles including Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey.
At the time, Musk refrained from publicly acknowledging the Torch’s existence or giving reasons for that lack of attention. More sincere promotion of Bitcoin had nonetheless made him an obvious choice, the mogul having described the cryptocurrency as &ldquo brilliant. ”
1 theory for Musk’s Ethereum stunt revolves around previous criticism of Twitter’s scambots which always offered fake ETH giveaways at a notorious phenomenon.
At the time, Musk himself appealed to Dogecoin founder Jackson Palmer for help in finding a technical solution to the bots, which impersonated huge quantities of well-known users in an effort to link them to fraudulent giveaways.
‘What Should Be Developed On Ethereum? ’
Thus, when Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin invited him to rsquo & the job;s Devcon occasion in October, the response was perhaps predictable.
“Stop giving away ETH! ” Musk replied.
A further tweet produced something curiously serious, with Musk inquiring Buterin how he envisioned the Ethereum network later on.
“What should be developed on Ethereum? ” he wrote Tuesday.
The latter article swiftly garnered interest from crypto Twitter handles. Blockstream CSO Samson Mow offered &ldquo rockets&rdquo while trader and commentator WhalePanda used the opportunity to criticize what he viewed as Ethereum&rsquo.
“That’s a trick question since its sole purpose made its founders rich with vague promises of decentralization, scalability and usability … all that have been broken consistently, & rdquo; he responded.
