SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk has stated that Neuralink — his brain-computer-interface firm — could begin launch human trials at the end of the year.

The startup, that was founded by the billionaire in 2016, aims to transplant a computer interface in the human brain to present long-term treatment for neurological conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer’s and spinal cord injuries.

Musk revealed the abrupt update on the technology when reacting to a user who requested to participate in human trials.

“I was in a car accident 20 years back and have been paralyzed by the shoulders since. I’m consistently available for clinical research at @Neuralink,” Hammon Kamai advised Musk.

“Neuralink is working very hard to ensure augmentation safety & is close communication with the FDA. If things go well, we might be in a position to perform first human trials later this season,” Musk responded.

On Sunday (January 31), Musk advised users of private program Clubhouse that Neuralink recently utilized its nanotechnology to implant a chip into a monkey’s brain, which, he claims, allowed the creature to play with video games with just its own mind.

“You can’t even see where the neural implant was placed in, except that he’s got a slight like dark mohawk,” Musk stated, per The Hill.

Musk formerly estimated that Neuralink would begin human trials of the technology in the second quarter of 2020, which finally failed to materialise.

Last month, Musk additionally became the planet ’s wealthiest individual, as his net worth crossed $185bn (£136bn).
