Tesla CEO Elon Musk was in Germany this past week.
He also commissioned the organization’s under-construction mill and fulfilled with Volkswagen’s chairman Herbert Diess. 
The billionaire also test-drove VW’s competing electric car, the ID.3, sources told Reuters.

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk fulfilled Volkswagen’s Chief Executive Herbert Diess to get a courtesy visit through which Musk chose a test drive from Volkswagen’s brand new electric vehicle, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Friday.

According to local media, whose reports had been supported by Bloomberg and Reuters, Musk flew to Braunschweig airport nearby Volkswagen’s headquarters in Wolfsburg after leaving Berlin. There, he test-drove that the organization’s ID.3 electric-car during the two-hour assembly with chairman Herbert Diess.

A spokeswoman for Volkswagen declined to comment about the assembly. A spokeswoman for Tesla couldn’t be reached for comment. Musk was scheduled to meet Germany’s financial minister Peter Altmaier.

Diess has been outspoken in his praise of Musk.

“Elon Musk delivers results that many did not think possible,” he said on Linkedin in July. “They show: you can be profitable with electric cars. As one of few car manufacturers (Porsche AG also, for example), Tesla will drive through the corona crisis without a quarter of losses.”

In Tesla’s under-construction mill, Musk said Tesla plans to manufacture batteries for its own vehicles.

“It will be the first time that there will be a transformation in the core structural design of the vehicle. It’s quite a big thing. Both manufacturing, engineering and design as well,” he said, according to video from the occasion. “The three elements needed for a sustainable energy future are sustainable energy generation, energy storage, and sustainable transport, electric cars.”
