Elon Musk has stated the new technology that’ll be revealed at Tesla’s ‘Battery Day’ occasion which is likely live in a few hours won’t become broadly available for just two more years.

Investors and analysts expect Tesla to declare numerous significant advancements in battery cell technology, including a potential strategy for the company to create its own cells. Musk succeeded in late August of a new battery cell that’s 50 percent more energy-dense than those used currently in the Model 3.

Musk nonetheless also said that Tesla intends “to increase, not reduce battery cell buys from Panasonic, LG & CATL (maybe other partners too). But even with our cell suppliers going at maximum rate , we still foresee substantial shortages in 2022 & beyond we also take action ourselves,” dampening expectations and causing share prices to take a dip.

“The extreme difficulty of scaling production of new technology isn’t well understood. It’s 1000% to 10,000% tougher than just making several prototypes. The machine which produces the machine is vastly harder than the machine ,” he concluded.

Tesla is also expected to announce a breakthrough in the expense of batteries, which will help the carmaker provide its electrical models at less expensive rates, something which has also been a public concern for Musk.

Citing sources familiar with the subject, Reuters reports that Tesla is now working on new, larger battery cells at its Fremont facility. In addition, the business will also establish a battery cell production facility at its new factory in Berlin, Germany.

Tesla will maintain the 2020 annual shareholders meeting and also its Battery Day in the next few hours, so stay tuned.
