Ex-Microsoft Employee Arrested for $10 Million Crypto Theft

A former Microsoft staffer has been arrested for a scheme to pay $10 million in crypto, employing a few of the funds to buy a Tesla automobile and lakeside house.

A former employee at Microsoft has been arrested for a scheme to pay $10 million in cryptocurrency, the Associated Press (AP) reported on July 17.

Insider Schemes

The guy — a 25-year old Ukrainian nationwide, Volodymyr Kvashuk, supposedly employed the ill-gotten proceeds to buy a $160,000 Tesla automobile and a $1.7 million lakefront house. During the seven months of his plot, $2.8 million was discovered to have been transferred into his bank account.

Specifically, Kvashuk is accused of having stolen cryptocurrency gift cards that were redeemable against Microsoft merchandise then reselling them at a profit on the net.

As stated by the United States lawyer ’s office at Seattle, the defendant had helped by Microsoft’s examining of its internet retail revenue platform.

Kvashuk’s attorney did not allegedly answer AP’s request for comment.

Topical Breaches

This April, several cryptocurrency holders alleged their Microsoft-based email services — for example Outlook, Hotmail and MSN — has been attacked by hackers eyeing their crypto holdings. 

Among the sufferers, one claimed that the violation of his email accounts had enabled the attackers to reset his accounts on crypto exchange Kraken. Microsoft confirmed the violation had happened during the very initial months of this year.
