Electric cars have been on everyone’s lips for years and are getting more and more prevalent on the streets. BMW is definitely one of the pioneers and despite the understanding has been suggested in the marketplace for electric cars and plug-in hybrids. At the first half of 2019, the electrified BMW models made a substantial contribution to attaining a new sales report.

Electric cars and plug-in hybrids are also especially valuable since they attract entirely new clients to the manufacturers of the BMW Group. This becomes clear when looking at market shares in some important markets: at the first half of this year, for example, the BMW Group accounts for 7.9 percent of new registrations in Germany.

If it comes to plug in hybrids, the new registrations account for 21.8 percent. Another interesting data point is Europe’s number of new electrical vehicles registered – 15.2 percent.

The normal competitors Audi and Mercedes continue to maintain the shadow of the BMW Group in the field of electrical cars and plug-in hybrids. In Germany, 19% of the electrified vehicles come from BMW or MINI, in comparison, Mercedes and Audi only come to 4 percent each. Even with the 7% market share of Smart, Daimler stays clearly supporting the BMW Group.

Although BMW only accounts for 6 percent of new registrations in the worldwide figures, it still outperforms the basic competitors and only must concede to 2 brands. Since the debut of the Model 3, Tesla has been the market leader worldwide.

Second place goes to the Chinese brand BYD. With shares of less than 3%, Audi and Mercedes are placed under the “Other” section.

From the tiny electric automobile segment, the BMW i3 isn’t the world market leader, but using a share of 18 percent, it is simply just behind the considerably more economical Renault Zoe along with Nissan Leaf.

Even though the i3 isn’t getting any younger, it is steadily increasing its sales.
