Ford and Google enter partnership for improved connectivity



Ford and Google have entered a more six-year venture agreement that will provide the automaker with the Mountain View, California-based company’s applications for enhanced in-car connectivity and cloud hosting solutions. Ford announced the partnership at a media launch around February 1st.

“Ford and Google today announced a distinctive strategic partnership to accelerate Ford’s conversion and reinvent the connected vehicle encounter. Ford has also named Google Cloud its preferred cloud supplier to leverage Google’s world-class expertise in dataand artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML). Included in this fresh, bare-bones partnership–and beginning in 2023–countless future Ford and Lincoln vehicles in all price points will probably be powered by Android, with Google apps and services built-in,” the media release stated.

New Ford frontman Jim Farley said, “As Ford continues the profound transformation in our history with electrification, connectivity and self-driving, both Google and Ford coming jointly builds an innovation powerhouse able to provide an excellent experience for our clients and modernize our small business. ”

The Google software-driven updates are set to remove in 2023, adding various new features to most Ford and Lincoln models. Ford claims that Google Assistant will help keep motorists ’ eyes on the street and their hands on the wheel, even allowing for voice commands to care for any additional issues. Google Maps will induce Ford’s new primary navigation system, also Google Play will induce music and podcast listeners. It’s not great, though, since Android users are going to have more customization compared to iPhone owners; third party apps will be compatible with the Android platform specifically.

Farley sees the venture as a huge step forward in integrating other high-tech companies into Ford’s heritage. “We are obsessed with producing must-have, distinctively Ford goods and solutions. This integration will unleash our groups to innovate for Ford and Lincoln clients while providing entry to Google’s world-class apps and solutions,” Farley stated.

The new venture also offers Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, excited about the chance of Ford’s merchandise line moving forward, building upon a heritage of excellence. “From the very first moving assembly line to the hottest driver-assist technologies, Ford has set the rate of innovation for the automotive industry for nearly 120 decades. We’re proud to associate to apply the best of Google’s AI, data analytics, calculate and cloud platforms to help transform Ford’s business and build automotive technology that keep individuals safe and connected on the street. ”

Ford is beginning its first deliveries of this Mustang Mach-E and will be gearing up for brand new electric models like the E F-150 along with also the E-Transit van. Google’s new stage will drive even more tech into the all-electric lineup which Ford has concentrated on for the foreseeable future.
