Though the Ford EV boss failed to define Tesla by title, the problems he summarized have been connected to the Silicon Valley-based electric car manufacturer. Tesla’s build quality has been in the spotlight for decades, and as the company has taken strides in improving the standard of its own vehicles such as the Model 3 sedan, newer releases such as the Model Y are observed to have minor build problems as well. Elon Musk, for his part, has noticed in the past that the company has to focus on producing its automobiles as refined as possible.
His subtle color at Tesla aside, Palmer did provide some interesting insights regarding Ford’s strategy together with the Mach-E. According to the executive, Ford wants to pick up on the early adoption of EVs. “When folks see the real advantages of electric vehicles, it drives that desire and want. We wish to pick up on early majority adoption. We sell hundreds of thousands of them. They are very helpful in people’s lives,” he said, noting this is only one of the reasons why he Mach-E is a crossover.
