Europe’s Dacia Spring Electric is a China-made automobile, built from the Hubei province at Renault and Dongfeng’s joint venture plant. Thus far so good right?
Not so fast. It appears that French labour collections aren’t always pleased with Renault creating the Spring Electric outside of France and selling it in Europe. In addition, this sort of clash can become commonplace given the amount of carmakers are thinking along the exact very same lines.
Workers have been on border as to a job-cutting plan which Renault announced before procuring a state-backed loan again in June.

“We are basically opposed to making the Spring in China,” said Frank Daoust, a spokesman for the CFDT union. “This isn’t in keeping government aid for the car business and jobs from France. ”
Other carmakers do much of the same, so importing new models to Europe from Chinese factories – such as BMW using the iX3, the China-built Tesla Model 3, or Polestar.
Renault has drawn a little percentage from its own 5 billion euro ($5.9 billion) loan which France backed earlier this season, with President Emmanuel Macron just making the capital available once the firm consented to consult with unions on programs for two underutilized factories at home.
The FO labour union, which also represents Renault workers, known as the business to not deviate from its wish to make France a global center of excellence for EVs, while also asserting that the Spring’s carbon footprint is going to be “disastrous” due to the emissions involved in transporting the vehicle from China to Europe, reports Autonews Europe.
“It’s inconceivable and irresponsible to create them everywhere but France,” said the labour team in a declaration.
The Dacia Spring Electric has been unveiled lately along with the Megane eVision intended for 2022. The latter will nevertheless be constructed in Renault’s Douai plant in northern France.
