Geely is allegedly planning to construct a new EV mill for its premium manufacturer Polestar, according to two people with direct knowledge about the matter.
The sources told Reuters the Geely wants this plant to have an yearly production capacity of 30,000 EVs, which its place will be the western city of Chongqing, in China. The two Geely as well as Polestar failed to provide any remarks.
This report comes just as foreign carmakers such as Tesla and BMW have expanded their EV production in the world’s largest automobile marketplace, sourcing major components such as batteries everywhere and ultimately exporting the last product.

Geely happens to be China’s best-known carmaker internationally, seen as the way that it possesses Volvo and Lotus, nearly half of Proton and 9.7% of Daimler AG. Using Polestar, it assembles the low-volume Polestar 1 hybrid vehicle in Chengdu and the Polestar two volume sedans in Taizhou.

While specifics weren’t awarded, Polestar did confirm that development is already underway for the Precept and that the road-going model will be built at a new production facility in China.
Finally, Polestar intends to market bigger and much more sporty vehicles at its showrooms, that are currently located in nine nations. The carmaker would like to nearly double its existence internationally by the end of the year (in 23 to 45 showroom places ).
Geely is also building another mill in China for Lotus-branded SUVs.
