Geely to launch new Zeekr EV sub-brand to fight Tesla



As per a report by Reuters, Geely plans to establish a brand new sub-brand known as Zeekr, that will produce premium electrical vehicles to shoot on Tesla. The new brand is going to be handled by a different Geely subsidiary, Lingling Technologies, also will operate separately from the business ’s volume-focused Geometry brand established in 2019.

Besides Tesla, the new brand will appear to provide upmarket EVs which are good enough to rival established manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz. These vehicles will be built on Geely’therefore Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), that is highly modular and will accommodate vehicles in a to D/E sections.

The platform may be fitted with electrical motors (up to 3 ) that provide up to 635 hp, together with battery packs with electricity capacities of up to 110 kWh. The latter allows a selection of up to 700 km, while fast charging may see up to 120 km be regained after only 5 minutes of being plugged in. A working life of up to two million km was also touted by Geely.

For distribution, Zeekr will allegedly take a page out of Tesla’s novels by placing up showrooms in major town centers to sell cars at a fixed cost, which differs from conventional dealer models. This technique has assisted Tesla in expanding sales quickly in China, a prominent EV market.

In January, Geely entered into an arrangement with Baidu to set up a business to produce EVs, that is thought to be Zeekr. The Chinese automaker signed for a contract producer to Foxconn and it was recently reported that a brand new battery plant is on the road.
