Grimes shares original album cover artwork for ‘Miss Anthropocene’

Canadian singer/producer Grimes has long shared the artwork originally planned for the cover of her most recent album ‘Miss Anthropocene’ now (April 28).

Within an Instagram post, Grimes — real title Claire Boucher — clarified that the piece had been commissioned from one of her favourite musicians, Korean illustrator Rupid Leejm, however a poll overturned Boucher’s hopes of utilizing it as the album cover.

“I wish I trusted my gut,” reads her caption on an Instagram post. “I fucking LOVE this painting. Maybe there’s still a way to use it still (very receptive to ideas if u guys have ideas). I love art and purchasing prints. It’s something I just got into this season. It’s a wonderful way to support visual artists during the quarantine. ”

This was the original Miss Anthropocene album cover which I commissioned from one of my *favourite* musicians @rupid79m I polled a whole lot of ppl and everyone said not to utilize it (??) Grimes, who is pregnant with her child using billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, released ‘Miss Anthropocene’ in February this year. The LP is Grimes’ fifth studio album so far, following 2015’s ‘Art Angels’.

‘Miss Anthropocene’ was a double album, Grimes revealed previously in the year. “I truly do need to release a second disk because it is strong,” she told fans in a YouTube Q&A.

Earlier this season, Grimes called on fans to help her complete the music video to get ‘You’ll Miss Me When I’m Not Around’, distributing the raw video and documents in an effort to encourage “founders to create their own movies, as part of a collective art project”.

Last month, Grimes kicked off a yearlong residency at BBC Radio 1, enjoying the likes of Caroline Polachek, Aphex Twin and Vangelis.
