Kia has previewed a range of all-electric vehicles it will launch as part of its global EV business strategy.
The South Korean automaker wants to establish a leadership position in the global EV market and under its ‘Plan S’ strategy announced at the start of 2020, will expand its range of battery electric vehicles up to 11 models by 2025. A teaser released by Kia shows seven dedicated electric vehicles that it will launch by 2027.

Kia hasn’t released many details about these seven vehicles but has confirmed that the first of them is codenamed CV and will be revealed next year as its first dedicated BEV. This model “will offer the same competitive product quality and eye-catching design as Kia’s other vehicles, with high-performance driving and recharging characteristics.”
While details are scarce, the teaser image indicates that four of the new EVs being developed by Kia are SUVs/crossovers. At least one appears to be a sportier model while two others appear to be fastbacks/hatchbacks. Kia has confirmed that the CV premiering next year will bring with it a new design direction that will filter throughout the rest of the company’s EV range.
Details about the company’s EV future were announced by Kia president and chief executive Ho Sung Song during a recent event at its Hwasung plant in Korea. Kia’s new dedicated electric vehicles will use its Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and will offer “best-in-class interior spaciousness.”
“Kia has sold more than 100,000 BEVs worldwide since the introduction of our first mass-produced BEV in 2011, the Kia Ray EV,” Song said at the event. “Since then, we have started to introduce a range of new BEVs for global markets and announced plans to accelerate this process in the years ahead. By refocusing our business on electrification, we are aiming for BEVs to account for 25 percent of our total worldwide sales by 2029.”
