LG Energy Solutions wants to be constructing battery cells for Tesla in 2023 through a newly-created factory in the U.S. or even Europe.
The South Korean company already provides its own batteries to Tesla to the Chinese market but is eager to expand outside this 1 market. LG lately told Korean reporters it wants to build a U.S. factory to produce battery cells for EVs and electricity storage systems with expects that Tesla will be among its customers.
Back in September 2020, Elon Musk introduced the brand new 4680 large-format cylindrical cells the electric car maker intends to utilize in its future models. The automaker would like to manufacture these cells at plants in Texas and Germany as it seems to reduce production costs, enhance battery performance and increase driving range.
