Lindfield house with staircase slide sells, smashing suburb record

Sold – 17 Mackenzie St, Lindfield.

A stunning and sustainable trophy home at Lindfield, on Sydney’s upper north shore, complete with indoor staircase slide, has sold in just 16 days for more than $11 million – smashing the suburb record.

Expressions of interest on the 3118sqm estate at 17 Mackenzie St, were supposed to close on October 29, but agent Glenn Curran, of McGrath Lindfield, brought the closing date forward by a week owing to the interest.

Great things come in small packages

Mr Curran said five buyers made firm offers on the property, which had a price guide of $12 million. He said he could not disclose the sale price, but confirmed it had sold to a local family.

Industry sources say the property sold for between $11 million and $12 million.

The result blitzes Lindfield’s residential house price record of $6.75 million, set earlier this year at 9 Northcote Rd, according to CoreLogic data.

Classic facade – 17 Mackenzie St, Lindfield.

Contemporary back yard.

And it completes a record trifecta for Mr Curran. He now holds suburb records for Lindfield, Killara and Gordon.

He sold 26 Wattle St, Killara, for $11.8 million, in 2016, and 32 Nelson St, Gordon, in 2019 for $13.8 million. He sold the Gordon property with Darren Curtis, of Ken Jacobs Christie’s International Realty.

Mr Curran said the upper north shore’s prestige market was powering at the moment.

“This sale is a fantastic overview of where the top end of the market is right now,” he said.

“I haven’t see this level of activity at the top end of the market in the last 10 years. I think property is seen as a safe haven at the moment.

“People are not tied to finance at that level so they can make decisions quickly.”

The deck.

Federation features.

No, 17 Mackenzie St is a feast of novel and luxury features – from the internal slippery slide that wraps around the staircase to the impeccable chook pen with automated pen and citrus orchard.

Mr Curran said the stainless steel slippery slide was a real conversation point.

But he said it was the amazing renovation inside and out, that won many buyers over.

“The main attraction was that it is finished – they can just move in, and don’t have to undertake any renovation at all,” he said.

The main bedroom.

The pool.

With the help of acclaimed architect Luigi Rosselli, the owners of the home created a home that is as beautiful as it is sustainable.

Rammed earth walls, recycled bricks and cor-ten steel form the basis for the construction, along with plenty of glass to take in the view over the rolling lawn, established gardens and the heated pool with swim jets.

A geothermal system comprising six deep holes in the ground contributes to heating and cooling the house and pool.

Fifty-seven solar panels creating 19.6kw of power, and four Tesla Batteries allow for 24kw of storage.

The slate kitchen.

The slate kitchen is the heart of the lower floor and has a good view over the pool and yard, which is large enough for a game of cricket or even soccer.

Features of the kitchen include commercial grade Gaggenau Appliances, twin fridge and freezer, butler’s pantry and wine cellar.

Outside is built for entertaining and relaxing, with features including a Weber barbecue with sear station, charcoal grill, wood-fired pizza oven, Liebherr under bench Bar fridge, outdoor sink, outdoor fireplace and electric retractable awning.

One of the four bathrooms.

And another.

To the side of the yard is a well laid-out-fenced-off vegetable and herb garden with raised beds.

There is also a pool house which doubles as a gym. The property has development approval for a secondary dwelling at the back of the property, which has two street frontages, as well as a two-car garage.
