Mercedes Shines A Light On Headlight Development, Teases Upcoming EQS

But there came a big improvement with the debut of headlights in 1910. They intended drivers needed to manually light and extinguish their headlights.

Electric headlights became famous s and Mercedes continued to improve them over the years. The 1934 500K had Bilux bulbs that supplied low and high beams.

Headlight technology remained stagnate after that butin 1971, Mercedes introduced the R107 SL that was the very first car to use H4 bulbs. This doesn’t seem exciting, but the H4 bulbs were the first to feature halogen technologies for the beams. Because of this, they awakened night visibility.

As we begin to head into the contemporary age, the 1995 E-Class has been unveiled with Xenon headlights. They were are significant improvement over their halogen predecessors since they consumed less electricity lasted more and produced twice as much light.

Xenon headlights eventually gave way to LEDs because the 2010 CLS was the first to feature LED headlights. The switch to LEDs wasn’t the only noteworthy development since the version also featured highbeam assist.

Three years after, the S-Class became the “world’s first vehicle to do without bulbs. ” Insteadit embraced LEDs.

LED headlights have improved since then and Mercedes noted each headlight about the 2016 E-Class had 84 individually controllable LEDs rather than the 24 used over the CLS two years earlier.

We could expect that trend to continue in the long run as Mercedes suggested the forthcoming EQS will comprise high tech headlights. The business didn’t even go into specifics, but noted that the Vision EQS theory needed a digital front grille using 940 LEDs.
