We just came back from Miami where we had the chance to test drive the all-new MINI Cooper SE. The electrical MINI will go on sale this Spring, whilst evaluation compels embargo will expire on January 29th. But we sat down with the MINI technology and product team to talk about the electric vehicle. A few of the details were previously known from our ride review, while some are fresh from the press.
Motor Technology
What type of engine does the MINI SE utilize (e.g. AC induction, permanent magnet synchronous reluctance, or even a hybrid synchronous engine as used in the i3, etc.)?

Battery Technology

The motor and battery use a water / glycol mix for cooling and warming. Separate circuits are used, utilizing a heat pump system.
I read that the MINI’s DC quickly charging is limited to 50 kW. When most other EVs (and new charging stations) are moving into 120, 150, or even higher kW charging speeds, why limit that the fee rate to 50 kW? Because the battery is not small? To save cash?
Charging is related to capacity and battery technology. The 50kW capability gives the best mix of allowing for an 80 percent and charging intervals, fast charging capability SOC in as few as 36 moments. After hitting at the 80 percentage SOC (state-of-charge), the charging rate will obviously decline as is average for all vehicles.
Maximum Level 2 charging power is still 7.4 kW?
Yes, which means a full charge will take about 4 hours.
Magnetic/Regenerative Braking
Can the regenerative braking be switched to either on or off, instead of having it on all of the time as with the BMW i3?
There are two level of regeneration provided — one is efficacy that occurs early on throttle lift, another allows coasting on elevator that’s less intrusive during more spirited driving. There’s no atmosphere where regeneration is switched off. Regeneration occurs during braking.
Together with the 2 regeneration manners, the driver can select the preferred degree of regen according to their preferences. Technically coasting that is true is impossible with the 2 modes. If shifting into neutral, as in any other car, but not with pedal position you can coast.
MINI has taken this approach to allow flexibility of some much better performance oriented driving experience using the option to adjust the amount of coast/regen. MINI is attractive to a wider audience which doesn’t just wants efficacy of an EV, but the driving characteristics of a MINI. The thing is customers have the option choose which one they want to experience as their tastes dictate and to encounter both regen styles.
What’s the maximum regen energy in kW, or maximum regen braking force (as in, for example, 0.2 G)? In contrast, Model 3 AWD max regen electricity is 85 kW (0.2G), along with 110 kW in monitor way (0.3G). Because the MINI is lighter energy would provide comparable.
The 2 modes provide 0.19g (such as i3) and 0.10g.

Energy/Power Display
We found in our trailer of the MINI SE in New York City that the power graphic had no components attached (only 100 percent, 50% for power, also “Charge” to get regen. Still no kW units connected?

Will energy use (efficiency) be exhibited? (for example – 192 Wh/km) And in logical units Wh/km or even Wh/mi, compared to the odd kWh/100 km or kWh/100 miles?
Energy use is exhibited in mi / kWh which can be toggled from the device cluster display and revealed from the CID
Interior Options
Should you live in areas where the sun is intense and summers are often very hot, glass roofs and black insides are not always preferable. In the past MINIs were provided just with black insides (except leather). Is this the situation today?
Model year 2020 Signature Plus trimming includes Cloth Leatherette Black Pearl / Light Grey at which the light grey is the cloth seating surface.
Additionally, solid roof to glass roof to trim level, and lower tiers?
Panoramic Moonroof is comprised with Signature Plus and Iconic Trims / Signature Trim has a roof.
Can the MINI SE possess something such as Tesla’s “puppy mode,” permitting that the weather control system to operate while the vehicle is parked and locked? Although it is fast charging or when you are waiting inside the car?
There’s no “puppy style ” per se, nevertheless it is possible to trigger “Comfort Climate” By doing this, the can will heat or cool to a comfortable level without being “on”.
This mode can be used to precondition the vehicle either by cooling or heating. This pre-conditioning can be programmed to get the car prepared at a time, say in the departure time. If not plugged in, battery capacity can be utilized, if plugged in, grid power is used.
My Opinion: MINI Cooper SE will probably be much more fun compared to BMW M135i
Driving Range
MINI reported the car was analyzed in the new WLTP cycle used in Europe and returned an expected range of 146-167 miles (235-270 km). People were reassuring figures to start off . However, the EPA score in the United States is 110 miles (176 km).
