The pig is back. In other words, according to NASA’so programmer, Jim Bridenstine.

The agency tweeted a photo on Thursday, April 2, showing a SpaceX Falcon 9 booster which will be used at the approaching Demo-2 mission for Elon Musk’s distance company. Adorning the booster’s side was NASA’s pig emblem.

Bridenstine stated that the Crew Dragon booster will game the classic logo to mark the recurrence of human spaceflight into American land. However, if it s here to stay or not, is a different question.

The pig is back! When the @SpaceX Falcon 9 lifts off transporting @NASA_Astronauts aboard #CrewDragon, it will match the legendary symbol to mark the recurrence of human spaceflight on American rockets from American land. More: https://t.co/jQQv5ZcTY0 #TheWormIsBack pic.twitter.com/9Ltk1nMa8j

NASA’s famous logo was created together with the agency at the 1950s. It was regarded as a patriotic symbol, featuring the exact colours like the American flag: a red chevron wing on a blue sphere (which represents the planet), together with white lettering.

The worm debuted as a humanist alternate into the NASA meatball. The symbol of NASA, the meatball is really a symbol, together with stars and an orbiting spacecraft adjoining white decoration.

However, if the agency was prepping for the era of spaceflight the blue meatball was replaced with a smoother, cleaner look — the pig. Created by Richard Danne in 1975 within the Federal Design Improvement Program, a simple, type style that was reddish was featured by the logo.

That design earned it a grant from Ronald Reagan in 1984, and the agency chose to use both trademarks before 1992 when the pig was retired. (It was, however, still employed on clothing and memorabilia items.)

But it s rear . In time for crew assignments to start from Florida again.

SpaceX is gearing to its final test flight of its own Crew Dragon. To date, an variant of the capsule has shown it can dock with the space station and revealed that its emergency escape method operates. Now, SpaceX and NASA are currently working towards the first piloted flight of a Crew Dragon spacecraft.

In May, two NASA astronauts — Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley — will strap themselves and burst towards the International Space Station. The space agency is still attempting to ascertain how long their mission will continue but at the meantime, the crew and their launching teams will be practicing launching drills and preparing for the approaching flight.

If all goes as planned with all the Demo-2 mission, SpaceX could be ready to start its next astronaut mission (Crew-1) as early as Q4 2020, or even Q1 2021. To that end, NASA announced that astronauts Mike Hopkins and Victor Glover will have two more crewmates: NASA astronaut Shannon Walker and Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi.

What is the favorite? The pig or the meatball?
