NIO To Partner With Intel’s Mobileye For Autonomous Tech In China

Chinese automobile maker Nio will associate with Mobileye to create self-driving vehicles for the Chinese market and other countries.

The arrangement, as reported by Reuters, will visit Nio manufacture a self-driving system designed by Mobileye, Intel’s autonomous driving tech company. This system is going to be incorporated into future models from Nio as well as Mobileye’therefore autonomous services. It’s known that Nio will create the electrical vehicles that are going to be deployed by Mobileye because robotaxis.

No information about the partnership have been announced. In an interview with Reuters, Mobileye president and chief executive Amnon Shashua stated the two companies are planning for a first release in China beginning in 2022.

“The deal using Nio will also enable us to harvest data in accordance with Chinese regulations and enhance mapping to support autonomous driving,” Shashua explained.

Shashua revealed that the companies are targeting the Chinese market for the first rollout because the government is working on standardizing Mobileye’s safety version for self-driving cars into legislation. Furthermore, the regulatory environment is also well known in China.

Mobileye’therefore self-driving kit contains camera, radar, and lidar sensors, as well as a vision processing chip and various safety and mapping program. Its advanced driver assist systems are used in models from over 27 automakers.

It ’therefore worth noting that, after building a splash and appearing to establish itself to Tesla, Nio has fallen on tough times. In Q2 2019, the business posted net losses of 3.3 billion yuan ($463 million) and has cut more than 2,000 jobs annually.
