Porsche Taycan to serve as platform for Audi’s upcoming Sport E-tron GT Concept

While Porsche is yet to disclose that the manufacturing version of the Taycan, the car is already established to become the system of a second forthcoming EV — that the Audi Sport E-tron GT Concept, which will be set to earn a debut this coming November at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Audi Sport E-tron GT Concept has been initially declared last March during the company’s annual convention in Ingolstadt, Germany. During its announcement, Rupert Stadler, Audi’s CEO, stated that the Sport E-Tron GT would offer an experience to motorists that is both familiar and distinctive. A teaser for the vehicle was released afterward and it depicted a summary of an auto that was aggressive and sleek.

“It’s a car that succeeds in first glance, a Gran Turismo that stands out to get a type of sportiness,” Stadler stated.

While a lot of the information regarding Audi’s forthcoming all-electric sports automobile stay unannounced, a company spokesperson has offered The Drive having some interesting new information about the motor car. For one, the spokesperson noted the Audi Sport E-tron GT is being made in partnership with Porsche. This suggests the Sport E-tron GT would probably share the J1 design, the same system used at the Taycan, Porsche’s all-electric automobile that is anticipated to compete with all the Tesla Model S.

The Taycan is equipped with two eternally excited synchronous motors (PSM) that are expected to offer presses attaining 600 hp, in addition to an 800-volt battery that can charge up to 80 percent in only ~15 minutes using a 350 kW charging platform like the forthcoming IONITY Network. As a result of its electric engines, the Taycan is also quite zippy, with a recorded 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.  Considering Audi’s grand tourer will soon be using the Taycan’s platform, there’s a pretty good likelihood that the vehicle would feature performance specs because its Porsche cousin.

Utilizing the Taycan’s platform may benefit Audi at the very long run, particularly considering that Porsche’s car is currently shaping up for a well-rounded, well-thought-out motor car. Porsche, after all, seems to be one of those legacy automakers that is carrying the electrification of its fleet critically, as exhibited by the company’s expertise in ensuring the Taycan is backed by means of a fast-charging system very similar to Tesla’s Superchargers once it starts rolling out to clients. By utilizing the Taycan’s platform, Audi would just need to construct onto Porsche’s design, permitting the carmaker to maximize the finer elements of their Sport E-tron GT.

Exactly like Porsche, Audi expects to roll out a fleet of electric car offerings in the next few years, beginning with all the e-tron SUV, which was introduced earlier this past week. By 2025, Audi intends to have more than 20 electrified vehicles, with more than 50. Porsche, for its part, is expected to publish the Taycan sometime next calendar year, beginning with an initial production run of 20,000 vehicles each year.
