Rivian announces R1T pickup truck: $69k starting price, 400+ mile range, and 11k-lb towing capacity

US-based EV startup Rivian has made out of the shadows into announce that the specs of its first vehicle — that the R1T all-electric pickup vehicle. The R1T, that seats five passengers, is designed from the ground up to be as comfortable from the beaten path as it is on paved streets. Armed with features and cutting-edge technology, Rivian’s entry to the car market has the capacity to be quite a game-changer.

Being a car made for the outdoors, the Rivian R1T gets the ability. The pickup, while comparable in dimension to trucks like the Ford Ranger and the Toyota Tacoma, also outguns its competition in terms of towing capability. Even the R1T’s futuristic strategy to adventure can be found in the layout flourishes on its interior. The vehicle is equipped with a 15.6″ landscape-oriented center touchscreen, in addition to a 12.3-inch display that takes the position of an instrument cluster. A 6.8-inch touchscreen is placed at the back of the center console, providing rear passengers infotainment and climate management access. Even the R1T’s steering wheel features two thumb dials, exactly like the Model 3. The R1T is outfitted with hardware which allows it to function as completely due to a suite of detectors, lidar, radar, ultrasonic, and high-precision GPS technology.

In an announcement to The Verge, Rivian CEO and creator RJ Scaringe stated that the company is laser-focused on the adventure niche. The creator further clarified that Rivian stayed in the shadows over the years to make sure its first vehicles are tasteful and competitive when they enter the marketplace.

“They might have different form factors, they may differ, but every single one of [our products ] has to have this Patagonia-like feel of allowing adventure. We want to maintain that sharp. We want to concentrate only on the adventure space, so clients know what we stand for. ”

“We were quiet in stealth mode to avoid becoming caught in this kind of buzz cycle, and we all said let’therefore make sure we have all of the pieces lined up — the vehicle, the technologies, the group, the supply chain, the production plant — we really talk about it. Due to that, some people have been questioning [us]. Folks need to see this really is really true,” Scaringe explained.
