Rivian is already readying the R1T pickup, R1S SUV, and its Amazon delivery vehicle, and it appears to have big plans for the future.

Users at the Rivian Owners Forum recently discovered that the electric car startup has trademarked the names R3S, R4S, and R5S, as well as R3T, R4T, and R5T. Based on Rivian’s current nomenclature, that would mean three SUVs and three pickup trucks. In the past, the automaker has also trademarked names including R2T, R2S, R1V, and R2X.

It is likely that some of the trademarks made by Rivian have been done simply to protect those names, but we do know that it does intend on launching a plethora of new models. In fact, company founder and chief executive R.J. Scaringe told Bloomberg in early 2019 that Rivian planned to introduce six vehicles by 2025. All of these planned models were SUVs and pickups and while it’s certainly possible that some changes have been made to the company’s plans over the last two years, we know that the R1T and R1S will just be the start.

With that in mind, Scaringe stated in November 2020 that the company plans to launch smaller models aimed at the Chinese and European markets. These models should share parts with the R1T and R1S but will better suit markets where smaller cars are more popular.
