Cruise is scheduled to be sent into the International Space Station with director Doug Liman (who worked with Cruise on Edge Of Tomorrow) in October 2021 to make a film, the plot details for that have been kept under wraps. Even though it has been shown that NASA and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are financing the project.

It seems Russia have united Cruise’s new Hollywood space race following the news it will send a actor and manager to the ISS on October 5. Yulia Peresild — a favorite Russian TV and film actress — will soon star in the film, also Klim Shipenko will direct. It’s unclear whether the American duo or their Russian counterparts will likely arrive .

Russia’so called RIA news agency, as mentioned by the BBC, has stated that the drama has the working name Challenge. It will tell the story of a female surgeon’s assignment to do a surgery to get a cosmonaut too sick to return to Earth.

In November 2020, Russian space agency Roscosmos verified that it was trying to find a film celebrity — with no previous acting experience needed — to front the project. Peresild and Shipenko were both selected after a clinical and a creative choice procedure. Their instruction for the film will include centrifuge and vibration checks and flights onto a zero-gravity plane.

Cruise finalised his distance job in September 2020. Space Shuttle Almanac confirmed on Twitter the Axiom Space Station, piloted by Commander Michael Lopez-Alegria, will set off on a tourist assignment in October 2021 with Cruise and Liman aboard.
