SpaceX has returned to flight less than three months after suffering its original Falcon shooting collapse in almost a year, successfully putting the next 60 Starlink satellites in orbit and recovering Falcon 9 booster B1049 for the eighth time.

Maybe the single most tortured SpaceX mission , now ’s Starlink V1 L17 (Starlink-17) mission suffered no less than a dozen distinct flaws since it was tentatively scheduled to launch in late January. While other SpaceX assignments are delayed longer than Starlink-17, no additional assignment – short, possibly, of Falcon Heavy’s launching introduction – was hit by more successive delays.

No matter that uphill struggle is now over and another batch of 60 Starlink satellites is safely in orbit – anticipating setup from Falcon 9’s expendable upper stage throughout one hour after the rocket’s 3:24 am EST liftoff. (Update: Successful deployment confirmed at 4:30 am EST) No less significant on Starlink launches, Falcon 9 booster B1049 additionally caught its eighth drone ship landing and even managed to avoid exploding minutes after touchdown.

SpaceX hasn’t provided an explanation for its copious delays of among dozens of inner Starlink launches projected within the upcoming few decades. Oddlyenough as was the case in an earlier February 28th launch attempt, a SpaceX engineer position in as the company’s official webcast host confirmed that cameras Falcon 9 booster B1049 – flying for the eighth time – would provide no live perspectives throughout this webcast. Yet again, SpaceX gave no excuse, increasing more than a small suspicion it was blatantly ‘drawing the curtain’ on a sensitive region of the launch following a Falcon booster failed its landing attempt a month.

B1059’s death marked the first Falcon booster landing collapse in almost a full year and more than two-dozen effective recoveries. At a March 2nd media conference in SpaceX’s upcoming ‘Crew-2’ Crew Dragon astronaut launch, the business revealed that Starlink-19’s landing collapse came after the third in-flight engine collapse in Falcon 9’s 100+ launch history. The cause: a hole in an elastic, skirt-like seal that protects the delicate internals of one of the booster’s Merlin 1D motors in the hellish environment at its business end.
