Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles will get an upgrade in their Supercharging rate through a software update from 200 kW to 225 kW.

The upgrade was posted with all the release notes of this 2020.24.6 software update. According to the notes, Model S and Model X vehicles could bill at 225 kW peak rates when plugged into the company’s V3 Superchargers.

“Your car is able to bill V3 Superchargers at around 225 kW peak rates. As usual, if you navigate to a Supercharger, your auto will state its battery through the drive, so it can charge quicker,” that the release notes stated.

The vehicle ’ s package heats to an optimum temperature for charging to prepare. The new update will do it throughout the drive, which will decrease the time spent at a Supercharger.

However, it is unclear what Model S and Model X vehicles will have the ability to use the new peak. Tesla hacker and proprietor @greentheonly discovered programming which signaled the battery packs which would be receiving the update could be “packconfig93. ”

Though the Model S and Model X do not have versions that use 93 kWh battery packs, then the 100 kWh batteries which are used in Performance and Long Range Plus configurations have 93 kWh of battery capacity.

Tesla introduced its V3 Supercharger at March 2019. The charger was effective at a 250 kW peak charging. The organization stated in a blog article the new, more powerful Superchargers were meant to enable rapid charging rates for the company’s high volume vehicles, the Model 3 and Model Y.

Although the 250 kW peak rate was available at all these stations the Model 3 was able to use speeds which were near this rate due to the automobile ’s use of 2170 cells. The Model S and Model X battery packs utilize 18650 battery cells which aren’t optimized to manage the output of their V3 stalls. Tesla did upgrade the Model S and Model X battery packs to manage 200 kW peak rates.

At mid-February, a Model S Raven owned by Eli Burton of the My Tesla Adventure YouTube station achieved a peak charging rate of 181 kW at the V3 Supercharger situated at Tesla’s Fremont facility. It was one of the highest charging rates for a Model S which was recorded and came within striking distance of reaching the 200 kW peak rate that Tesla allowed for the car in 2019.

Tesla has continued to roll out enhancements and optimizations and charging systems because introducing the V3 Supercharger. Together with the company continued to boost battery technology inside its vehicles and increase the range across all of its versions charging rates will be helpful for owners that have the Long Range variants of Tesla’s automobiles.
