Tesla cancels Model Y Long Range RWD variant, honors FSD price from pre-order date

Tesla enthusiasts who pre-ordered that the Model Y Long Range Rear Wheel-Drive version are being advised to select another configuration of the firm ’s all-electric crossover. Tesla has been bemoaning its Full Self-Driving package ’s price from the date of the pre-order, however, providing a small discount to owners who intended to arm their own LR RWD Model Y together with the firm ’s semi-autonomous driving package.

The variant was that the planned replacement for the Standard Range RWD Model Y after CEO Elon Musk said that the configuration needed less than 250 miles of range, a number that has been “unacceptably low. ” Musk announced the cancellation on July 12, 2020, but said that Tesla would decrease pricing on the Model Y’s Dual Motor AWD variant and create exactly the Long Range RWD configuration for a replacement.

However, that the Model Y Standard Range trim afterward became available on January 7, 2021, together with 244 miles of range for about $41,990.

Currently, Teslarati readers indicate that Tesla is reaching them out to make them aware of the cancelation. Instead of canceling their orders altogether, Sales Advisors are inviting owners to select either the Standard Range RWD Model Y or the Long Range AWD configurations of this all-electric crossover. Both of these builds will be the closest to the LR RWD variant of the Model Y.

“Below is the configuration/price breakdown of the currently available Long Range All-Wheel-Drive Model Y and Standard Range Rear Wheel-Drive Model Y,” one email said to a Model Y Long Range RWD reservation holder stated.

Teslarati achieved to a Tesla showroom for comment, in which a Sales Advisor verified that the LR RWD Model Y would not be built at any point, and the company is contacting reservation holders to update their own reservations.

Additionally, Tesla is honoring the FSD package ’s price when the reservation holder ordered the car. The FSD package now sits at $10,000 however has undergone several price increases in the past year. If a potential buyer put a deposit to the Model Y LR RWD variant in March 2020, they’d nevertheless be asked to pay $7,000, instead of the present $10,000 price.
