Tesla’s upcoming Cybertruck will be able to float on water, according to Elon Musk. The new vehicle from Tesla, was already shaping up to be an interesting option, and now it’s sounding even more interesting.

Musk announced the Cybertruck in November of 2019 and it immediately drew comparisons with CD Projekt Red’s upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077.  Since then, pre-sale figures have exploded, with well over 600,000 pre-orders having already been placed. The popularity of the upcoming truck has only increased as more details have been revealed. Even though Tesla is still in the stages of scouting a location for the manufacturing facility, a prototype was recently spotted on the streets of Los Angeles.

Twitter user, batflyer asked Musk if he would be able to use the Cybertruck to cross streams. Musk replied by confirming that not only can it cross streams, but “it will even float for a while,” adding the ability to circumvent water to the growing list of Cybertruck’s features. Electrek originally reported on Musk’s floating Cybertruck confirmation, referencing its similarities to Tesla’s Model S. Musk previously said the Model S was able to float thanks to a hermetically sealed battery pack, and at the time, said it could float well enough to “turn it into a boat for short periods of time.” However, for those hoping to be able to drive straight into the water like James Bond, it is unfortunately not recommended.

The ability to float is only one of the unprecedented features Musk has revealed about the upcoming vehicle. During the initial announcement, Musk said the Cybertruck would also feature bulletproof windows, the ability to go from 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds and a charging port for an electric ATV. Furthermore, it can reportedly tow up to 14,000 pounds and best an F-150 in a tug-of-war contest.

Still, it may be worthwhile to take much of what’s been said with a grain of salt. It is no secret that Musk has a tendency to over-promise and such excitement can sometimes prompt a confirmation of features before they are actually tested. While the Cybertruck does sound like a massive innovation for the auto industry, if it can deliver on even a few of its promises, it is still likely to be an incredible vehicle. In the meantime, the hope is Musk is having some sort of conversation with CD Projekt Red. If there is ever going to be a game that could encapsulate Musk and Tesla’s ideas for the future, it will probably be Cyberpunk 2077.
