Following a blockbuster March that saw Tesla China promoting an impressive 35,478 vehicles domestically, the EV maker continued to strike its rhythm at April 2021. This was obvious in Tesla’s full earnings of 40,019 vehicles, also included of 25,845 units sold domestically and 14,174 exported to other territories. With those results, Tesla China effectively dominated the country’s EV exports for April 2021.

The information, which has been published recently by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), shows that Tesla could maintain its power on the market despite a tide of controversies and negative media coverage. Tesla China was embroiled in a succession of problems a month, the most noteworthy of which had been a high-profile protest in the Shanghai Auto Show and rumors that the firm ’s automobiles had faulty brakes. These rumors were later debunked by the real-world operation of Tesla’therefore brakes at multi-vehicle accidents.

That being said, Tesla China’s domestic sales did fall 27 percent in comparison to March 2021, although this is likely not due to a lack of demand. Instead, the notable fall in Tesla’s domestic sales was due to the 14,174 vehicles which were exported to other territories. Without the exported cars from March, Tesla China could have broken its domestic earnings records in March.

But despite its 27% fall in domestic earnings, Tesla China’s local amounts are still upward 611% year-over-year. That’s impressive growth either manner, particularly considering that Gigafactory Shanghai has only just begun the manufacturing ramp of the Made-in-China Model Y. Considering that the Model Y is predicted to outsell the already-formidable Model 3 due to its crossover layout, there’s a fantastic opportunity that Tesla China’s amounts over the next few months will likely be even more remarkable.

New Energy Vehicles appear to be hitting their stride in China. Just like Tesla, businesses like NIO have seen powerful year-over-year growth. Before this month, NIO noted that it had delivered 7,102 automobiles in April, also a 125.1% growth YoY. Xpeng Motors, on the other hand, delivered 5,147 cars a month, the increase of 285% year-over-year. Li Auto, another up-and-coming participant in China’s EV space, reported earnings of 5,539 units in April, a rise of 111.3% YoY.

Exports-wise, but the race was not even close. Tesla’s 14,174 vehicles delivered to other countries stood unrivaled in the very best. Its nearest challenger has been SAIC Motors, which exported 2,378 automobiles in April, along with third place would be Aichi Auto, which included 335 EVs within the entire month.
