Taking a look at the rapid progress of Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai, it’s tough to imagine that only a couple of months ago, the site had been mocked for being only a cluttered plot of property. Following the conclusion of this centre ’s Phase 1 buildout, work is currently underway to install production equipment within the factory itself. If a recently leaked email from Tesla’s President of Automotive is any indication, it seems that even the installment of Gigafactory 3’s meeting lines is progressing in record rate.

In his email to Tesla workers , Jerome Guillen, who had been promoted to President of Automotive this past year, mentioned that Tesla is making preparations to raise the output of this Fremont, CA plant, also the location where the Model S, Model 3, and Model X are now being produced. Even though Guillen didn’t supply particulars in his message, he’d say that workers “will be thrilled with all the forthcoming developments” in the electric automobile production facility.

Guillen also provided a rare update on the progress of Gigafactory 3, that has been rapidly taking form because its groundbreaking ceremony in January. Gigafactory 3 stands as a important part of Tesla’therefore strategy in China, the automotive sector ’s biggest electric car market, together with the company stating that in case the centre passes “volume creation ” in early Q4, Tesla could hit a production rate equal to 500,000 vehicles per year. The Automotive President, for his part, noted in his email to workers that many elements of Gigafactory 3’s meeting lines are already set up.

“The Stamping, Body, Paint, and also General Assembly traces in China are well underway and hitting records in both line design and fabrication,” Guillen composed, according to a Bloomberg report.

A glimpse of the progress could be found in a current drone flyover by Tesla enthusiast Jason Yang, who managed to catch some footage of their continuing work within the facility, such as spaces that appear to be intended for robots that will be utilised in the factory. Apart from the insanely speedy progress in the main general meeting building, other facilities in the complex are also taking form, including some substation southwest of the main factory, that is expected to be finished by September. Whether this timeline proves accurate, the substation will start operations just as the initial production runs for the Model 3 are beginning.

Tesla has opened pre-orders to get China-made Model 3s in the end of May, together with the company notifying reservation holders which deliveries will likely start in 6-10 months. Considering the date of this announcement, the expected initial deliveries for its locally-made Model 3 are predicted to start sometime between November 2019 and March 2020. Gigafactory 3’s production rate is predicted to start at a controlled rate, though Ma Chunlei, Deputy Secretary-General of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and Director of Shanghai Development and Reform Commission, has noted that the facility should achieve an outcome of around 3,000 vehicles per week when it begins hitting volume production.
