As Tesla awaits the green light to start floor clearing the Gigafactory 4 site in Grünheide from the Oder-Spree district, Economics Minister of Brandenburg Jorg Steinbach voiced his excitement about the positive impact the forthcoming electric vehicle facility will bring about the area.

“I am optimistic that young folks from all around Germany and much beyond desire to share in this project,” Steinbach stated in an interview with German novel Der Tagesspiegel. The minister added it will be a win-win situation, with Tesla selling electric automobiles in the neighborhood and the area becoming jobs that offer wages and excellent working conditions.

The Gigafactory at Eastern Germany will grow on a 741-acre land and is estimated to create 250,000 vehicles each year through its first phase and will gradually ramp up to 500,000 units after which 750,000 annually. The centre is anticipated to initially create jobs for 4,000 people working in three shifts.

Aside from the all-out aid of this government, locals also welcomed recent developments.

“It’so magnificent; it’s s just much like Christmas coming early for our area. The area is not especially famous for its strong business, therefore getting a Gigafactory will drive future-oriented technologies like battery production and autonomous driving,” stated Carsten Bronstrup of Unternehmensverbände Berlin-Brandenburg (UVB), an association of companies in Berlin and Brandenburg.

Bonstrup emphasized how Tesla can help create tens of thousands of jobs in the event the plan materializes. The UVB representative explained how competition can help local auto manufacturers explore new technological advances to assist stand their own ground.

Last week, the Economics Minister explained that the deal between the electrical carmaker and the German authorities is 95% secure and he expects the signing up of their Gigafactory 4 contract to occur during the upcoming few weeks. Tesla is still awaiting the acceptance of the Brandenburg state parliament’s funding committee. There’s a pending inspection from the State Office for the Environment that will give the green light should Tesla is in accordance with the area ’s Federal Emission Control Act.

With Teslas landing the back of automotive giants like BMW and Volkswagen, the car manufacturers that are local will feel the pressure. As the U.S. electric automobile manufacturer proved in its Gigafactory 3 at China, it can turn barren land in an efficient production line in about 10 weeks. If all environmental and legal requirements will likely be ironed out shortly, we may very well find the exact same thing happen in Germany. And if that will be the scenario, Tesla might only improve its share of the EV economy in Europe.
