Tesla has already started the preparations needed to get production started on its own forthcoming Model Y streamlined all-electric SUV, according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk . Throughout his introductory remarks on the automaker’s Q2 2019 revenue telephone, Musk reported that prep had started at its center in Fremont, confirming a report from CNBC from March.

Back in Tesla’s earnings call for 2019, Musk stated that it had been from the process of deciding between Fremont and its own Gigafactory in Nevada for production of this Model Y, which will be based on the Model 3 stage and will share a few of its componentry, a thing which Musk mentioned will help reduce its cost of production.

Even the Model Y, shown in March, looks quite similar at first glance into this Model 3. It has a slightly higher profile, however, putting it in such a compact SUV range. It has similar interior features to the Model 3, including the flat 15-inch touchscreen, and also features a panoramic roof similar to its larger Model X premium all-electric SUV sibling. Pricing for the Model Y will start at $39,000, which version will have a 230-mile variety. It’s currently planned to send sometime in the fall of 2020.

Tesla should be in a position to reach around 7,500 to 8,000 Model Ys made at Fremont by the end of the year, Musk verified in reaction to a question from an analyst to the telephone.
