Tesla Jacks Up Model 3 And Model Y Prices Yet Again

Tesla has tweaked pricing for the Model 3 and Model Y yet again, meaning the cheapest Tesla now starts at $39,000.

Those looking to pick up the keys to a new Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus will need to part ways with $38,990. That is a $500 increase from before. In addition, the starting price of the Model 3 Long Range AWD has jumped from $47,490 to $47,990. Prices for the flagship Model 3 Performance remain unchanged at $56,990.

As noted by Electrek, this marks the fifth time that Tesla has changed the price of the Model 3 this year, slowing increasing its price from a low of $36,990 in February.

Meanwhile, the entry-level Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD is also $500 more expensive than previously and now starts at $50,990. No change has been made to the Model Y Performance as it still starts at $60,990.

While Tesla hasn’t said why it has increased prices for the Model 3 and Model Y yet again this year, it could be in preparation for the Biden administration potentially reinstating the $7,500 federal EV tax credit for car manufacturers like Tesla that are no longer eligible.

In mid-February, the Model 3 Standard Range Plus was available to purchase for $37,990 but the car manufacturer decided to cut prices to $36,990. This price cut lasted just three weeks before the price was adjusted to $37,490. Two weeks later, the price jumped by a further $500 and back up to $37,990. Fast forward to the second week of April and another $500 price hike was issued, increasing the price of Tesla’s most affordable model to $38,490.
