If you were holding off buying a Tesla Model S Plaid until the first reviews came out, that decision will cost you as the company has raised prices ahead of today’s delivery event.
The high-performance model was listed for $119,990 earlier this week, but the price has now been increased to $129,900. That’s a $10,000 jump, which equates to an 8.2% increase.
There’s no explanation for the price increase, but it’s worth noting the vehicle is still cheaper than the Model S Plaid+ which was originally slated to start at $149,990. However, as we reported earlier this week, the Model S Plaid+ was cancelled at the last minute as Elon Musk declared there was “no need” for the variant as the standard Plaid “is just so good.”
As a refresher, the Model S Plaid has a tri-motor all-wheel drive powertrain which enables it to be the “quickest accelerating car in production today.” Tesla claims the 1,020 hp (761 kW / 1034 PS) EV can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 1.99 seconds, run the quarter mile in 9.23 seconds at 155 mph (250 km/h) and hit a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h). The car also has an estimated range of 390 miles (628 km/h), although the optional 21-inch wheels reduce that distance to approximately 350 miles (563 km).
Tesla will be hosting a delivery event tonight at 7 pm Pacific from their Fremont factory. The company hasn’t said much about the event, but it will be livestreamed and Tesla will presumably use the launch to renew interest in the aging Model S. The latter is important as the car is facing an onslaught of new competitors including the Audi E-Tron GT, Porsche Taycan and Mercedes EQS.
