Tesla has officially launched the China-made 2021 Model Y which contains a new interior layout with an upgraded center console, new door panels, plus a heated steering wheel, HEPA air filtration system (aka bioweapon defense mode), and also other similarities to its own 2021 Tesla Model 3 “refresh”.
Upgrades made to Tesla Model Y Design Studio for the Chinese market went live on New Year’s Day, giving potential buyers check out the newest pricing for the Model Y Dual Motor AWD and Model Y Performance version plus a glimpse of its own subtle interior layout updates.
Among the more visible updates into this China Model Y layout when compared to the US counterpart is the visual appeal of the upgraded center console that replaces Tesla’s glistening black center console cover using a matte finish and sliding center console doorway. The visual appeal of this “refreshed” center console initially emerged in the Made-in-China Model 3 that, soon after, made its own way into the Fremont-produced 2021 Tesla Model 3 for the US market.
China Tesla Model Y Design Studio
Another interior update that can be understood in the MIC 2021 Tesla Model Y has been a revised door panel layout that meets that of Tesla’s locally-produced 2021 Model 3. A visual comparison between the US and China Model 3, courtesy of @JayinShanghai, reveals an extra door trim using the same end as the dash trim.
Taking a closer look at the China Tesla Model Y Design Studio and the wood trim that extends beyond the dash to wrap round to the door becomes more obvious. Tesla is anticipated to roll out the upgraded door panel layout and refreshed center console into the US manufacturing Tesla Model Y in the coming months, in an attempt to unify suppliers and streamline generation between the Model 3 and Model Y.
The MIC Tesla Model Y also has a heated steering wheel and also “HEPA high efficiency air filtration system” that Tesla differently describes as “Bioweapon defense style ” in its own flagship Model S and Model X vehicles.
