A Tesla Model 3 from China has just gone where no additional Model 3 has ever gone before. In an epic 5,500 km (3,400-mile) road excursion, a white Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor AWD started a very long journey from Shenzhen all the way to the bottom camp of Mt. Everest. What’s more remarkable was the long excursion, the Tesla owner commented he experienced no range anxiety whatsoever, regardless of his extremely distant destination.

Driving to the bottom camp of Mt. Everest is no joke, and it is hardly something that is thought to be relaxing and convenient. Needless to say, any trip that involves among the highest and most dangerous mountains on earth is not something that is taken lightly. Some who push to Everest’s base camp utilize support vehicles just to be on the secure side. The Model 3 owner, for his part, took on the journey alone.

Quite amazingly, the Tesla owner said the 5,500 km trip went off without a hitch. Images shared online showed the Model 3 has been incredibly efficient during the excursion, at one stage even showing 131 wh/km. Even more impressively, the Model 3 owner said he experienced zero array anxiety since there were electric automobile charges in each hotel he stayed in, allowing him to leave for the following day’s journey on a complete charge.

Electric cars are in fact pretty good for trips to locations including Mt. Everest’s base camp, since electric motors and motors don’t experience the same challenges faced by cars equipped with the internal combustion motor. Traditional vehicles that operate on fossil fuels expertise decreased performance with decreased oxygen, which happens when driving high altitudes. Generally, an ICE engine loses about 3 percent of its rated power for each 1,000 feet of altitude gained.

If there’s anything shown by the Model 3’s trip to the bottom camp of Mt. Everest, it is that electric cars will likely be the vehicle of choice for those that enjoy experience. Since they don’t get rid of electricity in high altitudes, it would not be surprising if automobiles such as the Rivian R1T and R1S become very popular among thrill-seekers. Rugged and demanding electric vehicles such as the Tesla Cybertruck may also become the fleet trucks of option for both companies and services in locations such as Everest.

The minimal cost of maintenance, torque, along with constant power of EVs, following all, are extremely persuasive for buyers. And for companies that operate in locations in which the internal combustion motor is inherently laborious, the idea of using electric cars will likely make a good deal of sense. That is, naturally, if the expansion of charging solutions ramp even more, or if automobiles are finally equipped with novel charging alternatives such as the Cybertruck’s solar panel system.
