Even the Model 3 Performance is very exceptional among Tesla’s current vehicles at the manner it may take care of the needs of track driving without diluting its own output following a couple of laps. Using its Track Mode activated, the Model 3 Performance becomes a creature at a closed route, able to competing against the automobile industry’s greatest track-capable high-performance sedans such as the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Though the Model 3 Performance is famous because of its own drifting and cornering prowess, though, the vehicle is still capable of impressive straight-line acceleration, very similar to the electrical sedan’s more expensive siblings — that the Model S P100D along with the Model X P100D. Tesla did not equip the Model 3 Performance using a characteristic such as Ludicrous Mode, but the automobile ’s dual electric motors that produce a joint 450 hp and 471 lb-ft of torque are sufficient to propel the car from 0-60 in only 3.3 seconds yet (Tesla’s initial estimates listed the Model 3 Performance using a 3.5-second 0-60 mph ). This ’s still very impressive, particularly for an electrical car pushing itself on raw power.

Tesla has reached a place where it may produce the Model 3 en masse. North America, for one, has been saturated in Model 3 for months, since the electrical car maker ramped production of the car in its Fremont, CA factory. With more Model 3 to the road, it’s not surprising that movies of the vehicle racing around the quarter-mile are starting to become prevalent on video sharing platforms such as YouTube. As it happens, the Model 3 Performance is like its more expensive siblings — it enjoys dominating fossil fuel-powered cars around the 1/8 along with 1/4 mile.

One such video, uploaded by Vivianna Van Deerlin, showcased a Model 3 Performance fighting what appeared like a 5th-generation Ford Mustang GT 5.0 in the Atco Dragway at NJ. The Mustang is one of Ford’s many notable creations, and for good reason. The Mustang GT, for one, is equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 420 hp and 390 ft-lbs of torque. During Motor Trend‘s evaluations of the vehicle, the book listed the muscle car using a 4.3-second 0-60 mph time and a quarter-mile time of 12.7 seconds.

Inasmuch as the Mustang GT has a great deal of automotive background behind it, though, the winner of its quarter-mile race against the Model 3 Performance was evident the moment the race began. Propelled by the instantaneous torque from its dual electrical motors, the high-speed electrical sedan from Silicon Valley instantly took the lead over the muscular car from Detroit. Regrettably for its Mustang, the Model 3 only kept pulling till the conclusion of the race.

The Tesla Model 3 Performance ultimately finished the quarter mile in 11.863 seconds while traveling at 114.02 mph. The Ford Mustang GT 5.0, on the other hand, managed to cross the very quarter-mile mark in 12.452 seconds at 114.32 mph. This ’s a gap of 1.605 seconds involving the electrical car along with the muscle car.

Because of its prowess in both direct line races and closed circuit classes, the Tesla Model 3 Performance is starting to attract some veteran “auto guys. ” Among the most prominent types is racecar driver and automotive news reporter Henry Payne. A true-blooded automobile enthusiast and a 30-year veteran of the automobile business, Payne understands cars inside out, having raced countless cars around racetracks for a long time. Payne possesses a Model 3, and despite his vehicle turned into a non-Performance vehicle (he possesses a Long Range RWD version)he has yet stated that he is impressed with the automobile ’s track and overall capacities.

Just how impressed? Enough to dub the Tesla Model 3 since The Detroit News‘ 2018 Car of the Year.
