The Tesla Model 3 has kept its own stellar safety rating from the Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), making the organization’s rare Top Safety Pick+ award for 2020. The electrical vehicle maker and the safety group shared the statement on their Twitter accounts.

Not a lot of vehicles get the IIHS’ Top Safety Pickrating. To get the award, vehicles need to have “Good” scores in the driver-side little overlap front, medium front, side, roof power, and head restraint tests. “Good” evaluations are also needed for the vehicle’s headlights, a metric that’s particularly challenging for most carmakers. Even the initial iterations of the Tesla Model S and also the Chevy Bolt, as an instance, were granted a “Poor” evaluation by the bureau because their headlights were so brightthey are blind other drivers.

Following perfect safety ratings from the NHTSA, Euro-NCAP, and ANCAP, the Tesla Model 3 was given by the IIHS using its Top Safety Pick+ award in September 2019. The award was a huge triumph for Tesla, demonstrating once more that the Model 3 is still among the most powerful cars on the road today. The IIHS’ recent statement on its Twitter report suggests the Model 3’s 2020 iteration is as safe as ever.

The IIHS has noted that for the 2020 awards, just 64 vehicles qualified as the company ’s Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ listing. Among just 23 qualified to the Top Safety Pick+ award, and among these is the Tesla Model 3. IIHS President David Harkey explained the relative rarity of automobiles with all the “plus” rating is partly because of the company ’s headlight evaluation.

“The headlight ratings which have been a part of our awards standards in the last few years have pushed automakers to pay attention to this equipment. However, finding vehicles with the headlights that are perfect can be a challenge for customers. We wanted to reward automakers who have removed this obstacle,” he said.

Whenever the IIHS initially gave the Tesla Model 3 using its Top Safety Pick+ award, the company explained that besides its stellar crash evaluations and bleeding-edge accident avoidance technologies, the Model 3 shines due to the all-electric structural and powertrain layout.

Not having an internal combustion engine at the front of the Model 3, as an instance, provides the all-electric sedan. The Model 3’s all-glass roof, aside from being visually stunning, proved helpful to rsquo & the automobile;s entire safety, resisting over 20,000 lbs of force.
