Every now and then it’s great to check in on Tesla’s website since you never know what type of news you’re likely to stumble around. As an instance, that the Tesla Model Y’s ordering webpage currently boasts two notable updates: Pricing and information for a new cheaper rear-wheel-drive standard-range version, in addition to the electric SUV’s three-row seating alternative.  Whether or not, the two changes come less than a month after official reviews of that the Ford Mustang Mach-E–both that the Model Y’s newest EV challenger–started hitting on the newswire.

It appears that Tesla is trying to undercut the Mach-E’s price tag as a way of swaying buyers away in the shiny new pony. The “Standard Range” Model Y functions as the model’s base trim level and begins at $41,990. It carries an EPA-estimated assortment of 244 milesper hour That means that the Model Y Standard Range is $8,000 less costly compared to all-wheel-drive Model Y Long Range version. Additionally, it is $2,005 less expensive compared to $43,995 entry-level Mach-E, before appropriate federal and state incentives are payable, and it offers 14 miles broader range. Remember, Teslas no more qualify for the full $7,500 Federal EV tax free –but that the Ford does.

However, Tesla hasn’t even ceased there. For an extra $3,000 you are able to have seven seats installed in both the aforementioned “Standard Range” and “Long Range” models. Even the Model Y Performance, on the flip side, doesn’t even carry the option for the two seats, staying a five-seater. Even the Mach-E, for instance, will only seat a maximum of five no matter trimming.

Regardless of the positive reviews behind Ford’s new EV, the Model Y is now a much greater value than it was before. The only other electric SUV which undercuts that the Model Y is your Volkswagen ID4, which provides a total of 250 miles of EPA-estimated variety. But, such as the Ford, it also won’t seat over five. With challengers from Ford, VW, and even Volvo, the electric SUV wars are finally heating up, however it looks like Tesla isn’t backing up.
