Tesla’s Powerwall two batteries are currently assisting Zimbabwe change the picture of its telecom networks. 

Zimbabwe is a nation that typically faces a lack of money. Econet Wireless Ltd.. , one of Zimbabwe’s cellphone providers as well as the firm behind EcoCash, one of the country’s most popular mobile money systems, opted to adopt a less traditional approach to react to the country’s power problems. Rather than relying on an grid and gas generators, Econet opted to use Tesla’s Powerwall two batteries to power its base channels. 

The project is notable, together with the initiative between the installation of two Powerwalls for every base station. The whole project includes the installation of 520 Powerwalls, is Tesla’s extensive telecommunications initiative thus far, according to Moyo. Considering Econet has roughly 1,300 base channels across Zimbabwe, there’s a opportunity that Tesla’s 520 Powerwalls will prove to be the beginning. 

Moyo, whose firm handles the installation of the Tesla batteries, noted that if the Zimbabwe project proves successful, similar models can be embraced in other regions too. Econet notes the Powerwall two batteries are designed to measure in sometimes when the base channel ’s solar panels are not currently generating power. Every set of Tesla Powerwalls will power a base channel for as long as 10 hours on their own, according to the telecom provider. 

Commenting on the project, a Tesla spokesperson has noted that the organization is now working with several telecommunications companies across the world. The Silicon Valley-based firm added it sees a combination of solar panels and battery storage devices as a good chance to expand its organization and achieve in areas where power supply is limited, or at best, erratic.
