Tesla prepares for Model Y pilot line in China with massive hiring ramp

Tesla is preparing for the creation of the Model Y in China at its Giga Shanghai facility using a large hiring ramp of almost 900 manufacturing tasks.

Tesla is preparing for the very first production push of the Model Y crossover in the Chinese marketplace and hopes to start production at the beginning of 2021. Before the manufacturing efforts can last, the company must employ a sizeable team that will be able to manage the huge scale generation of the vehicle.

Tesla owner and enthusiast @Ray4Tesla on Twitter shared with the project postings, which detail the position titles and the number of workers the company intends to hire to the undertaking.

Giga Shanghai is currently under expansion to generate room for Model Y production. Phase 2 of the centre will build the electric crossover, also Tesla is also employing a new manufacturing process for the automobile through a massive casting system.

Tesla isn’t just hiring for the casting workshop but also in several other areas. The biggest hiring forces will happen in the Motor Workshop with 180 open places, the Assembly Workshop with 370 tasks, and the Body Shop with 140 places.

Each of these parts of this Giga Shanghai Phase two facility are aimed toward hiring production operators who will be responsible for putting together the Model Y onto the production line. These areas need the highest number of workers to guarantee the creation of the car is efficient and manageable.

One of the other places available for the Model Y line are in the stamping, paint, logistics, quality, and supercharging stores, all of which will contribute an “all hands on deck” strategy into the quickly arriving date of production of the crossover.

The effort of hiring more workers at Giga Shanghai follows a company-wide expansion of the group in China entirely. Not just is Tesla trying to add more staff members at its manufacturing facility, but the company has also posted several project offerings through various areas of China which are located at service centers and showrooms.

The wave of new hires is still preparation for the increased demand that Tesla has undergone in China since beginning deliveries of the Model 3 in January 2020. The mass-market sedan has become the most popular electric vehicle in China, overtaking the BYD Qin Pro.

The Model 3 shares 13 percent of the whole market share of EVs marketed in China in 2020, which will be more than tw0-and-a-half times bigger than the Qin Pro EV, which just has 5%, the EV Sales Blog reported.

Tesla is anticipating on the Model Y function as company’s most popular vehicle yet due to its own body style and enhanced cargo space. The company focused on improving the manufacturing of the vehicle, which started with improving the chassis and eliminating a lot of pieces from the car’s frame. The casting machine will create a one-piece chassis which will increase manufacturing efficiency.

Pair the manufacturing developments with a bigger team at Giga Shanghai, also Tesla could start building the Model Y can enter production sooner than expected.
