Tesla’s purchased Giga Texas property set the electric automaker back $97 million. But while that appears to be a sum for a 2,100-acre part of land, the deal was Tesla’s finest property transaction for a Gigafactory yet.

The land that Tesla purchased is located only 15 minutes outside of downtown Austin, Texas. Before the electric vehicle company chose to pull the trigger to the property after a few months of negotiating and considering other places for its next facility, it was possessed by TXI Operations LP, the Austin Business Journal reported.

TXI Operations is a subsidiary of the larger Martin Marietta Inc.. Martin Marietta’s latest quarterly earnings telephone disclosed that the company had marketed the plot of land for $97 million.

Comparing the Giga Texas website to the Gigafactory places concerning price per acre indicates that the facility was the deal the company has received to date.

In China with Giga Shanghai, Tesla purchased 214 acres of land for over 973 million Chinese Yuan, or roughly $139.638 billion. This price breaks down to approximately $652,514 each acre.

In Germany with Giga Berlin, Tesla purchased 740 acres of property for around $48 million. This would indicate that Tesla paid just over $64,860 each acre.

However, the land plot that Tesla purchased in Texas was the firm ’s greatest real estate deal to date. The 2,100-acre land was purchased for $97 million, breaking down to around $46,190 each acre.

Martin Marietta’s Senior Vice President and CFO James A. J. Nickolas and Chairman, President, and CEO C. Howard Nye suggested a “depleted sand and burial place ” in Austin was offered for nearly $100 million.

Tesla had purchased the land below a subsidiary company called Colorado River Project, LLC. This detail was included in the firm ’s demonstration to the Travis County Commissioners Court, in which the electric automaker summarized the economic advantages its production facility would have on the region.

Tesla acquired because it purchased a part of property, what could be thought of a price ” on the land. The purchase price is indicative of a excellent bargain for Tesla, that will bring thousands of jobs to the area and certainly will help the Austin region pull out of a deep economic downturn that was induced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tesla intends to move quickly during the growth stages of the land, and the firm has already begun leveling the ground in Austin. Tesla intends to start the facility in 2021 punctually for its manufacturing of the Cybertruck, that will begin production towards the end of next year.
