Tesla declared production at its factory in Fremont, California on the weekend, despite lockdown dictates in Alameda County in which the facility is located, The Verge reports.
According to 2 Tesla workers who talked with The Verge about the condition of anonymity, the electric automaker completed around 200 Model Y and Model 3 vehicles across the weekend. This came while Elon Musk revealed on Twitter which Tesla has sued Alameda County because of its order and vowed to proceed to the automaker’s operations out of California.
In a tweet, Musk supported “Tesla is restarting manufacturing today against Alameda County rules. I’ll be online with everybody else. If anyone is detained, I ask that it merely be me. ”

Alameda County’s Public Health Department said in a statement that it has been awaiting Tesla to submit a plan on how it will encircle its mill and contains told Tesla it can only keep minimum operations running at the Fremont mill until the program is approved.
On Saturday, Alameda County officials said they were ldquo;communicating directly and working closely with the Tesla team on the ground in Fremont,” and were participated in “a collaborative, fantastic faith attempt to develop and implement a safety program which allows for reopening while protecting the health and well-being of the thousands of employees who journey to and from work at Tesla’s mill. ”

Alameda County supervisor Scott Haggerty revealed to The New York Times that health officials and Tesla had been close to an arrangement for the mill to reopen May 18th earlier Musk’s tweets over the weekend.
“We were working on a great deal of policies and processes to help work that plant and very honestly, I believe Tesla did a very great job, and that’therefore I had it to the stage where on May 18, Tesla could have started,” Haggerty said. “I understand Elon knew that. However he wanted it this week. ”
CNBC accounts that Tesla reached out to employees last Friday to program changes on the weekend.
In a statement regarding whether the lockdown sequence is going to be enforced, Alameda County said “if Tesla violates this order, it would be Fremont Police Department’therefore choice to apply or not apply. ”
