Tesla is planning to set a design and study center at China which will produce “Chinese-style” automobiles, Reuters reports.
“In order to attain a change of ‘Made in China’ into ‘Designed in China,’ Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has proposed a very trendy thing — put up a style and study center in China,” a recruitment note shared with Tesla on its WeChat account read.
It remains to be observed when Tesla can set a local design center and how quickly it could design and build vehicles. However, Musk considers these Chinese-designed vehicles could be sold.
A design sketch seems to provide one look at how a ‘Chinese-style’ Tesla model could seem. A front end that is similar is featured by the auto into the forthcoming Model Y but looks considerably smaller.

“I believe something which could be super cool is to — and so people ’re gonna get it done, we’re gonna attempt to get it done — is to create a China design and engineering center to really design an original automobile from China for global consumption,” he said. “I think this is going to be quite exciting. I believe China has a number of the greatest artwork on the planet, and I think it’s a thing which will be appreciated on a global basis. I believe that it ought to be performed, and then we ’re fretting na get it done. ”
Tesla’s seemingly new-found fondness of China comes shortly after the auto manufacturer’s enormous production facility in Shanghai started operations late last year and is now producing Model 3s for its local market. Last week, Elon Musk confirmed that the Model Y will be made at the Shanghai site.
